This client had their elderly mother move in with them on acreage in Kingsholme after selling her house and relocating.
They felt strongly against putting her in aged care. They considered building a granny flat, but they didn’t want their mother too far away, so they decided to build an extension instead.
We worked with them to plan and then build the extension with all the features of a separate dwelling except a laundry. When we built the extension, the clients supplied the colour schedule from the builder of the main home which enabled us to carry through the same colours and fixtures of the main dwelling.
Keying an extension into a home, to match the existing textures, colours, levels and finishes to make it look like it was always there is always more challenging than a stand-alone dwelling. It requires careful planning, more time on site as you are in someone’s home, but the finished product is simply stunning.
They ended up with a beautiful 50m2 high-spec, second dwelling on their home, separated by a beautiful internal barn door with a kitchen, living area, master bedroom, ensuite and a small deck.
