A small block, working twice as hard.

When this Coolangatta family (you might know them as Life in the Fox Lane) set their sights on their dream location, they knew a compact block shouldn't mean compromise. Their goal was simple: make their block work a little harder for them, without losing the character of the home they'd fallen in love with.

Working within a genuinely tight footprint, our team designed a smart, self-contained 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom Granny Flat — proving that great design isn't about how much space you have, it's about how well you use it.

Inside, the kitchen makes the most of every corner, with sleek white cabinetry, warm timber-look joinery, a dishwasher, oven and a servery window that brings in natural light and ventilation. The open-plan living area flows onto warm timber-look flooring and out through sliding doors to a covered alfresco, it's the perfect spot to enjoy the Kirra breeze. The bathroom is finished with a frameless glass shower and a handy built-in niche, keeping the space feeling open and uncluttered despite its compact size.

The build wasn't without its challenges — a narrow site and a stretch of unpredictable weather kept our team on their toes. But with careful sequencing and a lot of trade coordination, we delivered a home that's as functional as it is beautifully finished, just steps from one of the Gold Coast's most iconic surf towns.

This project is a great example of what's possible on a smaller block, added living space, added flexibility, and added value, all in a compact footprint.
